AITA for not changing my tradition day and making uncomfortable
The dilemma involves a couple with three children: a 25-year-old daughter, a 16-year-old son, and a 13-year-old daughter. The eldest daughter, who moved out three years ago with her boyfriend, is facing a significant challenge. Due to a dramatic increase in rent costs in their area, their landlord raised the rent by 40% in just three months, making their apartment unaffordable.
Struggling financially, the couple’s daughter and her boyfriend planned to move in with his parents temporarily while they saved up for a new place. However, the boyfriend’s parents have declined to house their daughter. Consequently, the couple’s daughter proposed moving back in with her own parents, while her boyfriend would stay with his parents. She assured them that she would pay rent, but her parents felt that this arrangement was inappropriate. They believe that as an adult, their daughter should handle her own living situation independently rather than relying on them.

The parents’ refusal has led to their daughter living in a cramped two-bedroom apartment with six other people, some of whom she finds concerning. Despite her difficult living conditions, the parents remain firm in their decision, prioritizing their belief that their daughter should learn to manage on her own. The strained situation has affected their relationship, as the daughter now communicates with her parents less frequently, raising concerns about the future of their family bond.
